IMPORTANT CHANGES 25 September 2007 (this page is not being updated and prices may no longer be correct, please see home page)
Dear Bio-Fuel Customers,
Recently, HM Revenue and Customs have made some changes to the bio-fuel duty rules (please see: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/briefs/excise-duty/brief4307.htm ). Under the new regulations, anyone is entitled to make and use 2500 L of bio-fuel per year without paying excise duty. As a business producing in excess of that amount, we (Plymouth Bio-Fuels Ltd.) are required to pay the duty on the bio-fuel we sell.
Many people in the UK are running their diesel vehicles on straight vegetable oil, which used to be illegal. Under the new duty regulations this is now allowed. However, there are still issues that need to be considered regarding the use of super-market virgin cooking oil as fuel: 1) classified as food grade, new cooking oil is VAT zero rated and should only be used for cooking, 2) misuse of new cooking oil for fuel drives up the market price of a food commodity. Recycling used vegetable oil as a fuel will always be more environmentally friendly than new virgin oil.
In an attempt to stay afloat in a cut-throat, low margin business, we are making the following changes as of 25 September 2007:
· We will continue to supply and fit bio-fuel conversions especially with a view to enabling customers to run their vehicles on 100% vegetable oil. The extra saving over regular diesel will ensure swift recovery of investment. · We are introducing a clean multi purpose used cooking oil for 64.9p per litre (incl. VAT). This oil is available from us in 20L cans, 200L drums and 1000L IBCs (5p per litre discount on 1000L). At the point of sale, this oil is not classified as a fuel and therefore doesn’t carry the fuel duty. It is an express condition of sale that customers, who wish to turn this used cooking oil into a bio-fuel, take on full responsibility to comply with HMRC regulations (please read reverse of this page). We will continue to sell our existing duty-paid bio-fuel at an increased price of 99.9p per litre (incl. duty and VAT)
As of 1 November 2007: Our hourly labour charges will increase from £25.00 to £30.00 plus VAT.
Future new products: · 1000L batches of raw unfiltered liquid used cooking oil for 41.9p per litre (incl. VAT) · fuel additive package, specifically formulated to improve the burning characteristics of vegetable oil
General Guidance on the use of straight vegetable oil in diesel engines:
As with bio-fuel, all diesel engines will be able to run on a mixture of vegetable oil and regular diesel, however you will need a greater proportion of diesel in your mix. If you are currently running on 50% bio-fuel – 50% diesel, you may like to try 30% vegetable oil – 70% diesel. Customers with 2-tank systems should be able to run on 100% vegetable oil.
Please note that used cooking oil will be sold in cans (we also sell cans and funnels). The forecourt pump will continue to deliver our existing grade bio-fuel.
