The Bio-Power Electric Heater, developed and manufactured by Plymouth Bio-Fuels Ltd., provides an efficient means of heating bio-fuel right from the moment you turn on the ignition. This improves cold running and eliminates problems such as irregular idling and stalling whilst the engine is still cold. It also reduces strain on the fuel injection pump, which has to work harder when the fuel is thick and cold. We generally recommend idling the engine first thing in the morning for a few minutes to warm up before driving off. With the electric heater the cold running period is reduced and you can drive away sooner.

The electric heater is intended to be used only for the first 15-20 minutes of driving and not continuously. As such we recommend it to be used in conjunction with the Bio-Power Heat-Exchanger. The thermostat on the electric heater will switch it off automatically as soon as the heat-exchanger has heated the fuel sufficiently. If the decision is to fit only one heater we would generally recommend the heat-exchanger. This will generally improve the running of diesel engines on any fuel including diesel. It also utilises waste heat from the engine and doesn’t cost anything to run.

If you use your vehicle mainly for short journeys (less than 20 minutes) and want to fit only one heater, we would recommend the electric heater. However, we would recommend fitting a manual switch so that the electric heater can be switched off on longer journey. An illuminated switch would remind you that the electric heater is still on. Switch the electric heater off or remove the fuse when running on neat diesel. Use the electric heater only when running on bio-fuel or a bio-fuel/diesel mix.

Both the heat-exchanger and electric heater should be installed before the fuel filter. The heat-exchanger should be before the electric heater when both are used at the same time.

Power Rating
The standard electric heater draws a current of 16 amps at 12 volts. If requested we can make double strength heaters (32 amps) or 24 volt heaters. The 16 amp heater is usually quite sufficient.

The Bio-Power Heat-Exchanger and Electric Heater are subject to a 12 month warranty. Any unit found to have a manufacturing fault will be repaired or replaced by us free of charge within this period, so long as they have been used correctly and not been otherwise damaged. This warranty extends only for the replacement of parts supplied and not any other parts of the vehicle.
